Shrinath Ji Temple

The foremost place to be visited in Nathdwara is the Shrinath Ji Temple where a 7 year old incarnation of Lord Krishna is worshipped which is dated back to 14th century. The amusing story behind the saying that ‘The Lord chose his spot himself’ is that the Shrinath Ji idol has to be shifted from Vrindhavan in 1655 when Aurangzeb started vandalising Hindu Temples, it was then transferred to Agra where it stayed for 6 months. Later through a bullock cart it was being taken to the Kingdom of Mewar, but the tires of the cart got stuck in mud at the Sinhad village. The priests then decoded that the Lord has chosen his spot and will be worshipped at that particular spot in the Shrinath Ji Temple. Each day at the Darshan Timings, people flock at the temple to catch a glimpse of the lord.

Haldighati

Haldighati is best known for the Battle of Haldighati, which was fought on 18 June 1576 between the forces of the Rana of Mewar, Maharana Pratap, and the Mughal emperor Akbar’s forces, led by Man Singh I of Amber. The Mughals won the battle, but Maharana Pratap escaped. The battle is considered a turning point in the history of Rajasthan, as it marked the beginning of the decline of the Mughal Empire in the region.
Today, Haldighati is a popular tourist destination. There is a memorial to Maharana Pratap at the site of the battle, and there are also several temples and other historical sites in the area.

It is believed that Shrinath Ji used to love spending his time with the cows in the Gau Shala, hence it is situated 3kms from the Shrinath Ji Temple. This Gau Shala takes care of around 2000 cows, with the help of 50 staff members who are called ‘Gwalas’. It is said that a devotee’s visit is incomplete without spending some time in the Gau Shala.
